spring colds

Ugh. I feel awful. I have a cold and it is getting worse instead of better which I hope means that tonight will be rough but I will feel better tomorrow. I started taking drugs the minute I felt it coming on, much to Tom's dismay who thinks I should try and fight it more naturally. Ummmm I have watched him do it that way and I am not sure it is for me. He takes a spoonful of honey (hmmmmm good) with chopped garlic on it (eeeeew yuck!). Then he retreats to our bedroom and sweats the sickness out. Yeah not for me. But to appease the flower child within my husband I reluctantly take a spoonful of echinacea in it's tincture form, every night when I am sick, which usually results in my gag reflex kicking in and Tom laughing.
The things we do for love...

laugh

I can remember days in high school where I would spend my days laughing until my stomach hurt. Probably because my closest friends were these 3 guys and when the 4 of us got together it was pretty much laughing and giggling the entire time. I do recall getting asked to leave classes because I was laughing too much. Anyway they were goofs and I love them for it. I spotted this the other day and honestly this is funnnnaaaay!

taking a break even if it kills me

Sometimes it is necessary to just get away even if it is just for a weekend. Tom and I went to Fernie this weekend which was awesome. Except for the drive out there...I arrived home Friday afternoon to Tom cleaning the house, which was awesome. I packed up a cooler (a.k.a “chilly bin” if you are a kiwi) and threw the rest of our stuff into a bag. Great right? Yeah it was until we got to Nanton and could not find the stupid turn off to Fernie. Here is the deal, we had google mapped the directions which was great and shows the shortest route. IT DOES NOT say that some roads may not be clearly marked so you may get lost, which we did. To make matters worse Tom’s car has a rather irritating squeak that we are unable to locate and it was squeaking as loud as possible while we were aimlessly driving around. Let me just say it was one long, long, looooooong drive.
But we did get there...but things only got worse.
So we finally get to Fernie and find our hotel. Yay! I went in to check in and then we carried all of our gear in. I look at the room across from us as I walk into our room and see 2 rather wasted young guys with really red eyes, banging on the door to be let in. “Oh hell no” is all I could think, I was not really in the mood for wasted kids. So I tell Tom that I am going to get them to switch our room because we need to be able to sleep. As I walk to the front desk one of the guys pulls the “HHeeeEEEEEY what are you doing?”. He is really lucky that I did not give him a black eye, at this point I was tired, grumpy and feeling rather hostile towards everything. I arrive at the front and ask for a new room because the room across the hall seems really loud, “Oh I don’t think we have another room....OH are you across from the ‘drunk room’?” Hmmmm I think if the staff at a hotel are calling a room the ‘drunk room’ we have a problem. Anyway they did change our room thank goodness. But wait there really is more, so we get our new keys and haul all of our stuff to the new room. I put the key in the door, it was one of those key cards and the light did not turn green. So I try the other one. Nope no green light. So Tom and I walk all the way back up the stairs to the front and tell them our keys are not working. They “fix” them and down the stairs we go again. Yeah you guessed it..they did not work again. At this point I am on the verge of having a breakdown and wondering why we even left Calgary. Finally after one more time of the keys not working we were given the master key. (How that was a good idea is beyond me, at least we are honest people) So we did get into our room and went straight to bed. That day needed to end.

But the rest of the weekend was awesome. The snowboarding was so much fun! Fernie was warm and although it rained on Saturday, Sunday was a great day. We ate a delicious meal at the Curry Bowl and even had time for a nap on Saturday afternoon. The hill was quiet on Sunday and Tom convinced me to try some jumps which I did. Ok, ok they were really small but hey, at least I am trying. After the fiasco that Friday was, the rest of the weekend was a real treat and Tom and I both agree that we need to take breaks more often.

found objects

in the last 48 hours i have located
-1 set of US Navy whites
-2 steve zissou outfits
-6 plate stands
-3 pairs of 'old man' pajamas
-1 US navy peacoat
-1 cat calendar
and a protractor
if that is not the weirdest grouping of items i don't know what is...what may be even odder is that i found them all.

good day

today was crazy..work is busy. running around the city to try and track down crazy items like a US Navy uniform is kind of stressful in small city calgary. i could add more crazy items but i will suffice to say that it is a wild list and i only hope i can pull this all together by friday.
on another note i am glad to say i am feeling better and to day was absolutely beautiful. i was so glad to see the sunshine, it makes me feel like things will be ok and that the whole world is open to me. it is like waking up without your alarm jarring you to reality..it is such a great feeling.
one thing though is that as the weather warms up i start to dream about traveling and how easy it would be for us to pack up and just drive away. i have to try and keep that to a minimum as we both have some things we need to do here before we can take off on another adventure but soon.....
my sis, her friend Laura, Joelle and I watched america's next top model tonight, we have a standing date to tune in to tyra, consume a pound of candy and make fun of the show. it is lame but we love it and usually end up cracking each other up at the girls, the fabulOUS ms.J and tyra's insanely bad weaves. yeah for a bit of laughter with great gals.

definition

let me relay the funniest term i have heard in a long time..
MEAT SWEATS
as if that doesn't just make you laugh. i heard the term from a coworker and honestly i think it is hysterical. And oddly enough very true, you know when you have eaten too much meat and you get all bloated and gross feeling and you wish you had not eaten that last bite of meatloaf, roast beef, sausage, or whatever meaty thing you are eating...well that is meat sweats. totally hanus but very descriptive new vocabulary!
little side note, can i just say how happy i am to be working with people who make me laugh everyday!

under the weather...literally

today i am not feeling that well and i cannot figure it out. but i am headed to see the doctor next week so maybe she can figure it out. i really think that is has to do with the fact that it has been dreary and snowy in calgary for the past 2 weeks. i need the sunshine! i hate not feeling like i have all my usual energy and it is starting to take a toll on things i want to do. i probably need more sleep, some quiet time for me to recharge and some freaking sunshine.
